Hello, or perhaps Hello again! Lent is here again, in 2023, or whichever future year you listen from. Lent is a fast, but nobody I’ve met treats it anything like Ramadan, and that’s probably okay.

Last year I made Ben-Them: a Tale of the Christ, a meditative reflection on Christianity, as well as trans and non-binary genders. I dwell fully in each, and a few years ago I worried about how to reconcile the two. I used to hide both my gender and my faith, my relationship with God. I didn’t deny them, but I didn’t talk about them.

Ben-Them was an end to that, largely because it was good, and I couldn’t imagine coming up with anything else worth saying. I always swore I’d never make another season - though I briefly considered making an Advent season, entitled O Little Town of Ben-thlee-Them. Nonetheless, here we are with Ben Them II: A Tale of the Christ. Or, Ben Them number B.

Why? Well, a friend mentioned that Ben-Them was the only thing that brought them into discussion of prayer or the Bible during Lent. It was useful to them! And while I’m sure anyone who liked the last season could listen to it all over again and act surprised, here’s a volume two. Because if I can help people engage with a bit of their own faith, then I’m doing something worth doing. So here we go. Let’s begin with my downfall!
