about

One of my favourites of my own songs - I love that bridge, though I say so myself.. This one kicks off the King James Bible concept-album that is Kibrothhattaavah, and draws from the texts of Job 30, Ecclesiasticus 39, and Jonah 2 and 4.

lyrics

Send forth a smell! And sing a song of praise!
Send forth a smell! And sing a song of praise!
Play your harp for the Ancient of Days
(The smell is probably frankincense)

O, can it be wrong to pray on trivialities?
O, can it be wrong to prey on small animals?
Can it be wrong to pray on the toilet?
Pray constantly! It's difficult to spoil it.

Send forth a smell! Flourish as a lily!
Ring out the bell! And flourish as a lily!
Pray constantly! Not to would be silly
(I am as filled as the moon is full)

Have I the right to consecrate a dish?
Who am I to bless when someone says a-tish?
You know I think I'd better get a hanky,
Heck, one can even pray inside a fish!

Send forth a smell! Though troubles may be deep
Ring out the bell! Through troubles may be deep!
At his commandment waters stood as in a heap!
(The words of his mouth the receptacle)

Life's not always joyful with elation
I stood up an cried to all the congregation
I am brother to dragons,
A companion to an ostrich!
My harp is turned to mourning,
But to sin I'm not a hostage
My soul it grieves,
And my bowels they are boiled
My bones are burnt with heat, So I'm running out of oil
But my voice, it was heard From the belly of hell!
I'll be glad to make a little smell!

Send forth a smell! When the troubles you have toured
Ring that bell! O, pilgrimage to Lourdes
Don't be angry, Jonah, with a gourd
(...and also much cattle)
